Environmental risk assessment of chemicals substances / industrial chemicals
In the European Union, environmental risk assessments (ERA) are required by national and international chemical legislation for the registration and market authorisation of chemical substances. Recently, new developments in European legislation effect the requirements for environmental risk assessments of chemicals and represent a big challenge for all stakeholders. The new European Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH, (EC) No 1907/2006) entered into force 2007. Manufactures and importers of chemical substances are now obligated by REACH to submit physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological data for new and existing chemicals of quantities of more than one ton per year.
